How to Look After your Candle

How to Look After your Candle

As with all candles, the first burn is the most important. To begin, candles should burn one hour for every 1 inch in diameter of the actual candle size and make sure your candle has a full layer of liquid.  If the wax is not allowed to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge it will create a “memory ring,” especially if this is the first time the candle is lit. Once a candle has this “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel and to burn that way for the life of the candle.

Trim your wick!

We cannot express enough the importance of maintaining a short wick to get the most out of your candle.  We recommend trimming your wick before every lighting or once the candle has been put out but you must leave it to cool before trimming. The wick only needs to be approximately 6mm in length, keeping it this length will avoid mushrooming which can result in soot. This also controls the size of the flame allowing you to get the most time out of your candle.

Always burn candles well away from drafts, other heat sources and anything flammable.  Never leave a burning candle unattended.

The candle wax and fragrance oils are sensitive to both temperature and light, so please be careful when storing candles for an extended period of time.  Always store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keeping it in a dark place like a cupboard or box will protect it from fading and discolouration.
